Quickie Giveaway: Devoured by Amanda Marrone

I feel a wee bit guilty. I've promised myself this would not be a "once a week" blog, but that's exactly what it's turning into. As of late, my homework load as been piling higher and higher, and it's been taking me a staggering FIVE DAYS to read a three hundred page book. Which is, I'm sure you would agree, just ridiculous.

So, in order to make up for the lack of postage, I've decided to host my first giveaway.

My library recently hosted a sale, selling paperbacks for one dollar each.

Needless to say, I went a bit crazy.

So, I ended up buying a lot of books I've never heard of before based on how pretty their covers were. One of them was this:

Now, having flipped through it, reading a few choice chapters, and checking out early reviews, I've decided Devoured really isn't for me. But it might just be for *you*

Here's how to enter:

Leave a comment telling me about a time you bought a book you had no interest in. Make sure you add your email address, cause I'm not typing in any verification code to get it on your profile. (those things drive me apeshit insane)

Extra entries:

+1 become a follower/already a follower
+1 follow me on twitter @opinionatedme12
+1 tweet about it
+2 sidebar mention on your blog
+5 write a post about it on your blog

Contest open til Saturday, October 3rd--that's one week. Good luck, m'dears.

I recently bought "Tailspin" for a book group, and it's nothing at all like what I normally read.
I never finished it and I can't bring myself to tell the lady who picked it for group because it's one of her favs.
Yet she keeps asking how I liked it.

I will be following your blog.

I found your announcement on the ning. =)

There was a book sale at this community center and sure enough, each book was only $1 each, no matter how big or small, used or new. I ended up buying books with big names on the cover or because they looked to be in fairly good condition. Once at home, I realized at least one of them wasn't the kind of book for me. Maybe it will be in the future, but I don't know.

Yup, I happen to be one of those who judge a book by its cover from time to time too. I simply can't help but admire great artwork. =)

Thanks for hosting this giveaway and yes, I wish I didn't have to put time aside to study as well. I will follow your blog. =)

OOh OOh enter me, lol. This is a very pretty cover by the way :) I've had this one on my wishlist for awhile now.

I always buy books that don't interest me, lol..usually because they are new and I can just swap them online at PBS or Bookmooch. I haven't done this in a REALLY long time though. My local library has a forever sale, all Paperbacks are 50 cents..yeah, awesome! So I go there and pick up all the new releases and ARCs that are donated. My ARC pile was huge before I even started blogging, lol...and some of those weren't even interesting looking to me, how sad, lol.

I don't think I've bought a book I had no interest reading, at least that I can remember of. I'm usually pretty picky when it comes to me handing over the green for a book. I do get a little cover crazy though. I tend to judge a book by its cover from time to time. And this book cover is beautiful.

Oh gosh I've done that tons of times and always because of sales. I am so weak when it comes to sales. Especially if books are a dollar. I bought a book (the name escapes me) mainly because it was a dollar. It ended up sucking so bad you have no idea! I read the blurb on the back and it sounded awesome! The way it was executed was just plain lame.

Usually, I think that Im interested. That's why I buy the book in the first place. It's usually only after trying to read it that I realize I don't actually have any interest. It doesn't happen often, but often enough that I have a sizable DNF pile.

Devoured has a pretty cover.

As for buying books I have no interest in, I'm guessing textbooks don't count? I spent nearly a hundred dollars on one for a required course in which I really don't have a lot of interest.

Then I accidentally spilled a bit of water on it, so there went its resale value!

The first book that I bought and made me upset... LOL, not completely, but more not-reaching-my-expectations-kind-of-type was The Catcher in the Rye just because I thought it would've been some kind of sophisticated, cool read. It turned out that it wasn't. So I think I'm just gonna stop trash talking about it even though I never liked the writer or the book itself.

I am so careful with my money it is just on the verge of pathetic so I never buy books I am not interested in, even if it is only $1.00. I guess it comes from being poor for a period in my life and not having much for extras. I am just too used to being careful. I have to admit that I am first attracted to a book's cover but I would not buy one just because of one. I have to read the blurb on the back and if I am still interested I will look through it and make a final decision.

Usually I'm really picky about books, so I only buy books that I am pretty positive I want, but sometimes I still get a dud. The best example would probably be when I got Chasing Boys by Karen Tayleur - that book simply wasn't for me... I was bored out of my mind and held a contest to get rid of it! :)

I must admit that every time a library has a book sale, I buy many books. When I get home I realize there are a handful I have no interest in or will never read. So, I bring them down to the laundry room which has a large bookcase filled with books other people don't want to read. I always pray someone will choose the books I leave there.
